Thursday, February 23, 2006 will mark the opening of Stremmel Gallery's third exhibition for well-known bay area artist Robert Brady. Entitled, "Circle the Wagons: New Works in Wood and Clay," the exhibition will continue through March 18.

Born and raised in Reno, Robert Brady attended the California College of Arts and Crafts before receiving his M.F.A. from U.C. Davis in 1975. Since 1975 he has taught art at California State University, Sacramento. In the 1970s Brady established his reputation as one of the moving forces in Bay Area figurative ceramic sculpture. In 1990 he began working in carved wood and mixed media, continuing to use figurative forms, while beginning to add new, more abstracted references. Brady's work may be found in numerous public and private collections, including the San Francisco Fine Art Museum, the Oakland Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum, the Stedelijik Museum in Amsterdam and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian.

Robert Brady's 2006 exhibition at Stremmel Gallery consists of new works in wood and bronze, along with a return to clay. The show continues Brady's exploration of his elongated figurative elements as well as his more iconoclastic, abstract pieces. This exhibition corresponds with the opening of an important retrospective exhibition at the Palo Alto Cultural Center on January 29. An 84-page exhibition catalog with 45 color plates accompanies both exhibitions.

An opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The public is invited to attend the reception, view the exhibition and meet the artist. The show will continue through March 18. Stremmel Gallery is located at 1400 South Virginia Street. Hours are Monday through Friday 9 am to 6 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.
