From November 9 to December 2, Stremmel Gallery will present an exhibition of new works by Reno artist Maurice Nespor. Entitled "Chapter VIII," the exhibition will feature Nespor's latest mixed media collages. An opening reception will be held at the gallery on Thursday, November 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
Maurice Nespor began as an architect in Nevada, working for 30 years in the field before turning to fine art full time. He once said, "A career in architecture has given me discipline for the task and insight into the principles of composition." His formal compositions and geometric shapes and lines are reminiscent of fragmented architectural drawings and models. Nespor employs chine colle, cardboard and occasional found objects, to which he adds rich areas of color and textural elements. On his large-scale works these textures resemble bas-relief, offering dramatic statements that often give the impression of an aerial landscape.
Nespor was born in Kansas in 1937 and graduated with a degree in architecture from Kansas State University in 1961. Well known in northern Nevada for his striking architectural designs, he has been the recipient of numerous awards from the Nevada Society of the American Institute of Architects.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The public is invited to attend the reception and view the exhibition. The show will continue through December 2. Stremmel Gallery is located at 1400 S. Virginia Street. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.
